Another second hand bike I bought has a frame made all from carbon fibre, made by the famous Italian maker Colnago. In some places on the frame it has a clear-coat gloss finish, through which the twill weave pattern of the carbon fibre can be seen. It really is very beautiful close-up, with the 3-dimensional holographic quality already mentioned. It was this bike which was a source of inspiration for making an accordion from carbon fibre.
 
It’s also a really amazing bike to ride!!

So really the whole project was solely for aesthetic reasons - for the appearance of carbon fibre under clear lacquer and also for the organic curves achievable through the moulding process.
