Background

This unassuming piece of carbon fibre tube is where the carbon fibre accordion all began. A few years ago I fitted a pair of carbon fibre forks to a steel framed secondhand bike I’d bought (below), which entailed cutting a bit off the forks which weren’t required - the piece shown above. I put some lacquer on it and was amazed at the three dimensional and almost holographic effect produced on the surface of the carbon fibre.
