The reeds used in ‘BRIGGS’ accordions are the finest of Italian hand made reeds by ANTONELLI of Osimo. These reeds are known as ‘blue edge nostrino’ reeds - that is to say, the very best of hand made reeds. This name comes from the fact that, on the highest quality hand made reeds, each reed is cut from the full width of the strip of Swedish spring steel from which the reeds are made. Therefore the edge of the root of each reed, (the root being where the rivet attaches the reed to the aluminium plate), is left un-ground and retains the blue annealed surface of the original steel strip. This ‘blue edge’ can be seen in the top left hand image.

 

The way the reeds are tuned, (wet/dry etc), will be carried out to suit the player’s requirements.

 

The reed blocks are made from well seasoned Sycamore and Walnut.
